Opening a Med Spa in Texas

START A MED SPA WITH AN OWNER WHO HAS DONE IT

PRE-OPENING ADVISORY

The Pre-Opening Advisory is for funded owners about to open a med spa in Texas, and it serves wellness and integrated practices the same way. You have the capital, a physician relationship, and a market. What you do not have yet is someone who has personally opened a practice, has no financial stake in what you buy, and will tell you candidly which of your early decisions are right and which are about to cost you.

Two things make Luminary different from the opening consultants you have already found. Luminary is paid only by you. And Luminary's founder has actually done this: opened, staffed, capitalized, and operated real practices in a regulated medical environment, and still runs them. Start with a Business Plan Review, from $5,000, or engage Luminary for the whole pre-opening period.

Luminary does not open your practice for you. Luminary makes sure the practice you open is the right one, built on decisions you understood before you made them.

WHY MOST HELP OPENING A MED SPA IS PAID FOR BY VENDORS

Most consultants who help people open med spas earn a meaningful share of their income from the companies they steer you toward: commissions on device purchases, referral fees from practice management software, placement fees from medical director services, and agency kickbacks on the opening marketing package. That revenue is how they afford the low headline fee, and it bends every recommendation toward whoever is paying them.

Luminary takes none of it. No device company, software vendor, placement service, lender, builder, or marketing agency pays Luminary anything, and Luminary will not introduce you to one. When Luminary says a device is the wrong opening purchase, or that the software everyone recommends is the wrong fit for your service mix, the only interest behind that statement is yours.

WHAT AN OWNER-OPERATOR SEES THAT A CONSULTANT DOES NOT

A business consultant who has never run a med spa reads your pro forma as a spreadsheet. An owner reads it as a year they have lived through: the lease that looked fine until the build-out ran over, the device that paid for itself only because the service mix was designed around it, the first injector hire that set the compensation structure for every hire after, the first slow quarter, the medical director conversation that had to happen twice.

Luminary's founder has made those decisions with his own money and his own name on the door. Pre-Opening Advisory weighs your decisions the way an owner weighs them, which means saying plainly when a plan is under-capitalized, when a service menu is too wide to staff, or when the location is right and the timing is wrong.

OPENING A MED SPA IN TEXAS AS A NURSE, NURSE PRACTITIONER, OR PA

Many owners opening a med spa in Texas are clinicians: registered nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants who have built a following and want a practice of their own. Their first question is whether they can own one. The answer depends on how the practice is structured. Texas generally reserves ownership of the medical practice itself to physicians, so clinician-led med spas usually pair a physician-owned practice with a business the clinician owns and runs. Your Texas healthcare attorney designs that structure and confirms how the law applies to you.

Luminary works on what the structure does to the business: how revenue and costs move between the two entities, what the medical director is paid and what you receive for it, who controls pricing and hiring, and what happens to your investment if the physician relationship ends. Those terms are set before opening and are expensive to change afterward. The Business Plan Review and Pre-Opening Advisory both cover them.

START WITH YOUR PLAN: THE LAUNCH PLAN REVIEW

Many owners opening a practice are not ready to commit to an advisor for the whole pre-opening period. The Business Plan Review is a fixed-scope first step. Luminary reads your written plan the way an owner would and tells you where it will hold and where it will break, before you sign a lease or buy a device.

The review covers the whole plan through three lenses. Finance: the pro forma, the revenue build, pricing, break-even, and whether the capital covers the first year, including the months before the practice is profitable. Operations: the service mix, the device plan, room and provider capacity, and the opening staffing and compensation plan. Structure: the ownership and physician arrangement, with your attorney confirming the law, and the role you intend to play as owner. If one concern weighs on you most, name it at intake and the review gives it the weight it needs.

You receive an executive memo of five to seven pages within three weeks of receiving your materials: the three to five risks in the plan that matter most, in ranked order, with a recommendation for each. A 60-minute readout call walks you through it.

From $5,000, fixed fee, paid at signing and confirmed after a scoping call. If you continue into Pre-Opening Advisory within 60 days of the readout, the fee is credited in full and the review becomes the first stage of the engagement, so you pay for that work once.

WHAT THE PRE-OPENING ADVISORY COVERS

HOW IT RUNS

Four 90-minute working sessions, scheduled at your pace across the pre-opening period. Each session is built around the decisions that are live at that stage, from capitalization and structure at the start to readiness at the end. Between sessions Luminary reviews your plan, your numbers, and the decisions you are weighing, and prepares the next set of questions.

You receive a written Pre-Opening Plan: the business model, the decisions made and why, the open risks, and the opening-readiness checklist. The engagement closes with a readiness review 60 to 90 days before opening. The engagement is valid for six months from signing; if your timeline slips, a one-time extension is available. If you began with a Business Plan Review, it stands as the first stage: the review memo becomes the opening section of your Pre-Opening Plan, and three working sessions follow.

WHAT THE PRE-OPENING ADVISORY IS NOT

Luminary does not select your site or negotiate your lease, file licenses or permits, source your medical director, introduce or negotiate with vendors, hire or train your staff, run your opening marketing, or give legal, tax, or regulatory advice. Each of those needs a specific professional, and the Pre-Opening Plan tells you which one. Owners looking for a done-for-you opening are better served by a firm that does that, and Luminary will say so on the scoping call.

WHO QUALIFIES

A Business Plan Review requires a written plan that includes a pro forma, and an intended opening within eighteen months. It is most useful before you sign a lease or commit to a device.

Pre-Opening Advisory is scoped for owners who have capital committed, a physician or medical director relationship identified, a target market chosen, and an intended opening within twelve months. Those four conditions are what make the full engagement useful; without them, the sessions become general education, which is a different product at a different price.

If you do not have a written plan and a pro forma yet, the right place to start is the Hartwater CARE Institute's workshop on the business of opening a med spa. It covers the ground an owner needs before committing capital, at a fraction of the cost of an advisory engagement.

INVESTMENT

The Business Plan Review is from $5,000, fixed fee, paid at signing and confirmed after a scoping call. Pre-Opening Advisory is from $12,500, fixed fee, paid in full at signing and confirmed after a scoping call; it covers the four sessions, the written Pre-Opening Plan, and the readiness review. A Business Plan Review fee is credited toward it in full within 60 days of the readout, and the review counts as the first stage. Because Luminary takes nothing from any vendor, the fee is the entire cost of the relationship.
